Sponsorship for Commemorative T-Shirts
Being the Region Youth 17 Youth Director comes with certain obligations. One of my obligations is to Youth Nationals 2008. I am responsible for a $500 dollar sponsorship for the commemorative t-shirts that are presented to the each of the Youth Exhibitors. I really want to see the Region 17 logo proudly displayed on the t-shirts even if we do not have a large number of participants that show at Youth Nationals. This is an event that we need to sponsor remembering that the Youth are the future of this industry.
Let´s see the Region 17 logo on the t-shirts at Youth Nationals! Sponsor a Youth National Qualifier T-shirt by the June 1st deadline.
I am already celebrating a $100 donation from the All Arabian Horse Association of British Columbia and a $50 donation from RK Arabians. I am asking all the clubs in Region 17 to help me on this quest to meet my $500 obligation.

Regional Basket for Fundraiser
For one of their major fundraisers at Youth Nationals this year, the youth directors have decided they will be doing baskets from each region. To win a basket, you have to buy a ticket on the corresponding basket that you want to win! We are hoping to fill the baskets with items that make each region so special. Since Region 17 is so unique and diverse I know that ours will be the best!
I would like our members to come up with ideas of what makes Region 17 so special and what they would like best to represent our Region. We all know how great our Region is; let’s make sure everyone out there knows how famous we are!
We do have a little bit of time as the basket is not due till July - but the earlier we get started on this the better it will be. Contact me and I will be more than glad to make arrangements to collect all the very generously donated items and make sure that they get to the Youth Nationals in Albuquerque under the banner of Region 17.
If any of you have any suggestions please let me know – I’m always glad for more ideas.
2008 AHYA Convention
The Youth National Show Commission is digging the "Christmas in July" theme for AHYA Convention in 2008. Not final yet, but looks good! I will be attending the Youth Convention and am very excited about it.

Region 17 Scholarship Application Requirements
Region 17 of the Arabian Horse Association will award one scholarship, in the amount of $1500, towards the educational pursuits of a youth member in good standing of a Region 17 Arabian Horse Association Club. The applicant must be a youth member of the Arabian Horse Association as defined within the A.H.A. handbook.
Any youth member of Region 17 can apply. Applicants will be measured on the following: equestrian excellence, sportsmanship, scholastic achievement and work habits, and must demonstrate an ongoing commitment and contribution to the Arabian breed. An interview may be required whether in person or by telephone for all short-listed applicants. The interviews shall be pre-arranged with all short listed-applicants. Applicants must be active during the current year of application.
THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION MUST BE INCLUDED WITHIN YOUR APPLICATION:
- A completed application form.
- A resume outlining the applicant’s achievements in equestrian activities.
- Two letters of Recommendation: One letter from the applicants coach/ Local club member commenting on personal character, and one letter of recommendation from the applicant’s teacher or principal commenting on scholastic work habits.
- A photocopy of the last report card from the 2007-2008 school year.
- Copies of membership cards for a Region 17 club and A.H.A.
- A statement describing the applicant’s contribution and commitment to the Arabian breed. Please include any volunteer work that is equine related.
- A statement describing the applicants intended use of the funds.
- References: three sportsmanship references including names and telephone numbers.
- A short biography (one page or less) and recent photograph. Please include any volunteer work that is not equine related.
