Region 17 Championship Arabian & HA/AA Horse Show
September 9 – 13, 2020
Agricentre Pavillion Westerner Park, Red Deer, Alberta

August 2nd, 2020

We have been APPROVED by AHS!!

With the caution that this approval is fluid. IF our covid numbers worsen to the point that further restrictions are necessary, this could impact the Show proceeding in September.

The AHS Public Health Inspector has reviewed our documents and strategies to date and feels we are compliant with current government guidance.

Next step is a facility tour with him, some Covid Crew Volunteers, Show Chair Darlene Brouwer and Westerner staff. That is scheduled for Aug 7.

PLEASE submit your entries for Aug 5!

Be vigilant in following current precautions and we hope to see you at the 2020 Region 17 Arabian Horse Show!

July 24, 2020

The COVID committee is dedicated to working toward a SAFE 2020 Region 17 Arabian and Half Arabian/Anglo-Arabian Horse Show. Everyone is VERY EXCITED to come together and show their beautiful horses this year. We hope to make that a reality!

We are awaiting approval from the provincial government to host this show. Our plan is being reviewed by Alberta Health Services (AHS). In addition, we are in the process of submitting required documentation to Alberta Equestrian Federation (AEF) and Equine Canada (EC).

The show will look a little different this year. The COVID volunteers are working hard to comply with AEF and EC Return to Competition Guidelines. Our goal is to make them realistic for all to follow.

As we know, the COVID situation is fluid and our efforts to host this show will depend on COVID-19 numbers moving forward.  Therefore, details could change at any time.  As of this date, it is looking positive. Please submit your entries as soon as possible. The due date for entries is August 5, 2020.

Out of Province Exhibitors: Please monitor your government’s guidance for travel outside of your province.

The following are some of the protocols to be followed at the show (we will continue to update if any changes occur):

  • Always maintain 2 metres (6 feet) of physical distance from other individuals (unless you live in the same household).

  • Face masks are to be worn in all public areas where social distancing is not possible, unless mounted.

  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the show grounds.

  • Equine Canada and will be utilized.

  • Mandatory and forms must be completed. The forms can be found at Please email completed forms to at The form will be posted soon.

  • No social gatherings will be hosted by the show or barns.

  • Extra cleaning of washrooms, door handles, etc. will occur.

  • Where possible, doors to stabling will remain open.

  • Access to stabling areas limited to essential personnel.

  • Only essential people are to be on the show grounds. This is not the year for family, friends and spectators to attend. The show is closed to the public. We are currently allowed a maximum of 100 inside a building and 200 outside. We need your help to manage this.

  • Only one class will be in the hitching ring at a time.

  • One-way traffic to enter and exit the show ring.

  • We need to be mindful of areas that get congested, like the hitching ring area going into main ring. Masks may be necessary when it gets busy there, so come prepared to wear a mask.

Greater detail as far as stabling, camping beside the barn, show office, contact tracing, hitching ring, ribbons, enhanced cleaning, and signage will be shared at a later date. It is suggested that barns begin to gather protective gear now such as gloves, masks, hand sanitizer and planning their own physical distancing measures. Let’s all work together and look forward to having an amazing 2020 Region 17 Horse Show!
